The tomato leaf cutter Tuta absoluta is considered the most destructive tomato pest in Egypt. It has been reported in Egypt since 2009, and it has quickly become one of the main pests of tomato crops. When the larvae feed on the expanded minerals of the mesophyll leaves, damage occurs, which affects the photosynthetic capacity of crops and reduces their yield.
Scientists at Nangu University have identified five insecticides using leaf soaking method under laboratory conditions, namely indoxacarb, abamectin + thiamethoxam, amimectin benzoate, fipronil and imidacloprid The effect of absolute black whitefly larvae.
The scientists said: “The results show that amimectin benzoate is the most toxic to pests, while imidacloprid is the least toxic.”
In the order of decreasing efficacy, the pesticides tested are arranged as follows: ampicillin benzoate, fipronil, abamectin + thiamethoxam, indoxacarb and imidacloprid. The corresponding LC50 values ​​after 72 hours were 0.07, 0.22, 0.28, 0.59 and 2.67 ppm, while the LC90 values ​​were 0.56, 3.25, 1.99, 4.69 and 30.29 ppm.
The scientists concluded: “Our research proves that enamostine benzoate can be used as a good compound in the comprehensive management program to control this pest.”
